Brett Magennis
Optical Dispenser/Optical Mechanic
Brett started with OPSM in Wollongong as a first year apprentice Optical Mechanic in 1990.
After 2 years in Wollongong, Brett became lab Manager of OPSM in Warrawong where he managed the lab for 18 months. By 1994, Brett finished his studies in Optical Mechanics passing the course with distinction and winning second in his year. Brett then continued to do Optical Dispensing with OPSM, having dual qualifications by the end of 1995.
Brett’s training as an Optical Mechanic helped him become a better dispenser having the technical knowledge of lens surfacing from his trade. This knowledge and understanding when selecting different options in multifocals for his patients has been a significant advantage.
Brett enjoys coaching cricket and spending time in Minnamurra River.
Rachel Magennis
Optical Dispenser
Rachel started with OPSM in Macquarie St Sydney in 1991 as a trainee Optical Dispenser.
She became a qualified and licensed Optical Dispenser in 1993 then returned back to the Illawarra and South Coast working in stores for OPSM as far south as Batemans Bay.
Rachel understands the responsibilities of small business after owning and operating a successful franchise of her own, The Athlete's Foot Wollongong and Miranda for nearly 20 Years. Her detail for customer service and product knowledge has made Rachel a success in both Industries.
Rachel loves the outdoors and spends time on her paddle board or watching her three boys play cricket.
Ashleigh Peters
Optometrist
Ashleigh graduated from the Bachelor of Optometry and vision science (UNSW) with Honours in 2014. Since graduating, Ashleigh has worked at multiple stores across Australia, providing rural eyecare and treating eye diseases.
She has also completed courses with the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO) and has been practicing as a behavioural optometrist since 2018. Ashleigh is Therapeutically endorsed, meaning she can prescribe eyedrops such as antibiotic drops to treat eye disease. Ashleigh has a special interest in Dry Eye Disease, offering patients specific advice based on the latest dry eye research. She is also interested in prescribing multifocal contact lenses, in the latest research in slowing short sighted progression (Myopia), and in performing paediatric eye examinations.
Ashleigh believes every patient should be treated with compassion and thoroughness as if they were a family member. Having a son on the spectrum, Ashleigh is very understanding and compassionate to any patient who may need additional support during the eye test.
Ashleigh lives in the Illawarra and spends her spare time caring for her two children, going for hikes and doing Yoga.
